TIMESONLINE - Lewis Hamilton has rejected Felipe Massa's claim that he was robbed of the Formula One World Championship by the "Crashgate" scandal.
Speaking after the first day of practice for Sunday's Japanese Grand Prix, the defending champion said he was shocked after Massa demanded the Formula One authorities strip Hamilton of his title.
The fallout from the now notorious 2008 Singapore Grand Prix continues to rumble on and Hamilton, who won the world title from Massa by a point last year, could be the biggest victim if the FIA, the sport’s governing body, takes the Brazilian’s complaints seriously."First, I should say that it's good to hear that Felipe is recovering well and that he's back to his normal self and feeling good," Hamilton said. "I'm shocked to hear him say that because I've always felt him a fair driver and he knows that we had a fair battle right to the end, at least that's how I saw it.
"All we can say is that it was a tough season, things happened. There were lots and lots of 'what-ifs' throughout the season so I'm a bit surprised to hear him say that because I thought we had quite a fair battle and I won it fair and square, so it doesn't matter to me what he said."
