Lewis Hamilton: "We Don’t Know Why We Were Fast"

SPEED TV - Lewis Hamilton says he has no real explanation as to why McLaren was so competitive in Germany.

On Friday, the Briton didn’t rate his chances very highly, but he qualified on the front row on Saturday and scored a superb win Sunday after jumping into the lead at the start.

“We didn’t really think we would be so fast and [we’re] not quite sure what we’ve done, because we’ve not really brought much here,” said Hamilton.

“I don’t know if it’s the conditions. I think we were competitive in Montreal, and in Monaco and in Valencia, in hot temperatures, we are less competitive."

Hamilton said that the win would be a big boost to the team.

Hamilton Says Contract Demands To ‘Shock’ McLaren

SPEED - Lewis Hamilton sugests he's having a minor burn out and says he'll demand fewer sponsor obligations in his next McLaren contract.

Lewis Hamilton has revealed he will demand a less arduous off-track schedule when he negotiates a new contract with McLaren.

The 2008 World Champion's current deal includes 2012, but it emerged last week that a success-related break clause could open the door for a switch to Red Bull.

However, Christian Horner on Saturday estimated the chance of a Sebastian Vettel/Hamilton lineup next year as "slim to nil," at the same time as a frustrated Hamilton was publicly laying out his demands for a new deal at McLaren.

"When I re-sign the contract with McLaren they are going to be shocked at how many days they are not going to be able to make me do... "I will be doing a lot less work. There is definitely a danger of burnout," said the Briton.

Hamilton, who has had a poor run of results and been the subject of intense speculation as well as criticism recently, admitted he is looking forward to F1's August break.

"It is nice to know I have got that coming up," said the 26-year-old, admitting he feels "older" than 30. "Am I tired? Um, maybe. Have I trained? No, never trained for the past two weeks.
"But what's important is that the sponsors are happy," he quipped.

Lewis Hamilton: "I’ll drive on the edge ’til I die"

THE SUN - Lewis Hamilton insists he will not curb his racing style, saying: I'll drive like this until I die!

Hamilton has been branded dangerous.

But he said: "I'll take my driving style to my deathbed, for sure. People over-react to everything. You make a squeak and people over-react to it, that's the way of this world."

F1 legend Niki Lauda claimed Hamilton was "mad' and could kill someone.

And rival Felipe Massa yesterday warned the Brit to cool it. The Ferrari racer said: "When you have some difficult races and maybe you're trying too much, you have to calm down."

But Hamilton, 26, insisted: "This style has got me where I am today, so why should I change? "My goal is to be the best, to drive the car like Ayrton Senna did."

F1 driver Hamilton hits back at critics

AFP — Lewis Hamilton on Friday joined Michael Schumacher in laughing off comments from retired racer Eddie Irvine and rejecting verbal attacks from Niki Lauda and others following his recent spate of on-track accidents.

The 2008 world champion, like seven-times title holder Schumacher, took no notice of the comments from fellow-Briton Irvine who had told Autosport magazine that Hamilton had "lost the plot."

"People love to take the opportunity to grab the headlines don't they?" said Hamilton.

"I guess that is what they have done. "It doesn't bother me or concern me. He can say what he likes.

So can Niki.

The stewards (in Montreal) didn't agree with him. "Jenson (Button, Hamilton's McLaren team-mate) didn't agree with him, my team didn't agree with him.

I don't know many people who agree with him.."

Hamilton won the drivers world title in 2008 and has won 15 Grands Prix from 78 starts. Irvine, who spent four years at Ferrari, won four of his 146 races.

No friction as loser Lewis Hamilton kisses butt

DAILY STAR - The McLaren Mutual Admiration Society has been at its nauseating worst this week.

After Jenson Button’s memorable last-to-first triumph in the Canadian Grand Prix – one of the most dramatic Formula 1 individual performances of all time – McLaren bosses have done all they can to gloss over his bad-boy team-mate Lewis Hamilton’s errors.

Montreal was a one-man masterclass in the art of precision racing from Button – and it was a triumph that again drew cruel attention to Hammy’s ability to press the self-­destruct button.

A skirmish with Mark Webber, a tangle with Michael Schumacher and then the coming together with Button’s car that saw Hamilton go out early on have raised question marks over his racing temperament.

But none of it halted the love-in between Button, Hamilton and their boss Martin Whitmarsh, who have continued to sing each other’s praises all week.

After Sunday’s race in Canada, F1 great Niki Lauda claimed Hamilton’s driving antics could result in someone getting killed.

But McLaren team principal ­Whitmarsh led the chorus of support for Hammy and said: “He is always going to be a passionate race driver, always going to go for it.

“And it would be wrong to try to defuse that passion.”
